A Yanapuma´s story

One of the best nights in my life, a night of connection and acceptance during an Ayahuasca ceremony, not long ago in the Peruvian Amazon (2019), I saw, hidden behind the forest vegetation, a couple of deep green eyes looking in my direction. I never saw the whole body so I don’t know if it was a Black Jaguar …. but I needed so much for it to be … times of change, I thought.

Few years ago I discontinued my first attempt of a formal bussiness named “Pax On Board”. It was a small tour company that designed outings in Lima and sold them to bigger travel agencies and direct clients. To make a long story short, we faced (my brother and I were partners) some challenges; the biggest one being the fact that I wasn´t enjoying the whole process. I guess I wasn´t really prepared and decided to stop the business and continue as a free lance Tour Leader which is what I do nowadays. I have been leading groups all over the country for about 20 years. I love it so much I think I am good at it and I would like to develop more creative ways for people to enjoy traveling in Perú.

That beautiful night in the Amazon stayed in my mind and heart, what I learned and felt, those eyes and that presence. It made sense to me, I have to be more conscious, work on myself, my family and the world around me and enjoy the process. So here I am, with the name Yanapumas in my mind. I don´t want to consider this as a business, a travel agency or an NGO but a summary of some things I would like to do in life and for my community, It´s a space to present you options for outings and activities, developing projects and motivating news and stories from people like You.

Yanapuma is one Quechua name for Black Jaguar or “Otorongo Negro”, a very unique and uncommon wild cat and spirit of the Peruvian Amazon. To me, it represents confidence, intention, action and learning in everything we hope to do in life.
Starting with the idea that sometimes people are a reflection of ourselves, being a Yanapuma is to be on a journey to encounter human beings, stories and places that remind us the strenghts aforementioned.

Yanapumas Perú is a group of great people, guides and interpreters, who will lead you on excursions, trips and projects designed to share life in Perú. We are very experienced in our own fields of interest and are eager to walk with You the path less traveled through our country.

Ps. The design of the black jaguar was done by a great peruvian artist and person Siddhi Pumak who also lives in the Sacred Valley of Cusco.
